Downtown Confetti and Cashmere Under New Ownership

For Dawn Prather and her mother Thelma Leitch-Lane, becoming the new owners of Confetti and Cashmere was an easy decision.

“We have a lot of experience in the “party and event world” having both done a significant amount of event planning in a corporate setting, weddings, showers, birthdays, and more. It is something we really enjoy and will continue to for years to come,” Prather said.

Dawn and her husband moved to Manhattan five years ago and knew then that it would be their forever home. With that decision in mind, the Prather’s wanted to be a thriving part of the community; not just live among it. “When we arrived, we started a non-traditional business in leadership and marketing, and as that has grown and been successful we kept our eyes and ears open to opportunity in traditional business here in the area.”

Dawn continued, “We have tossed around the idea of purchasing the shop from former owner Jill Mason, for a little while and when my mom moved to the area it really opened the door to make the possibility a reality.”

Confetti and Cashmere offers traditional party supplies and services, however, the new owners plan to expand their event planning services to include planning birthday parties, wedding showers, wedding days, and large corporate events.

“We also really enjoy learning and growing in retail knowledge.  We love the idea of being know for exceptional customer service, and becoming a staple in the community for many years to come, Prather said.”

The store will be hosting an open house in the spring and would like to invite everyone to stop by when the event in announced. Co-owner Dawn Prather said, “We really want to take a great business that Jill started here in the community and continue to honor the customers and do a good job.  We are looking at this business as a store that will still be providing for the community 20 years from now!”

“The former owner, Jill Mason, has made a great customer relationship in the area that has become known for fun boutique balloons, we plan to continue offering those options and expanding on them as well.”

The new store owners also said that they would love to utilize more local artists. “We want to partner and support those who are creating in our community. We recently were able to have Caleb Amundson create chalk art for us which was great. We also have been speaking to some local artist about offering invitations, and custom lettering projects, and would like to even offer local gifts. We really want to not just “sell” to the community but be a part of enriching the community.  We are also looking for different charitable options that we can partner with on a long term basis.  We recently partnered with Birthday Party in a Box so we can help support their work in what they are doing!” said Dawn.

We just want to say thank you for welcoming us so warmly.  Manhattan is a really great place to live, and raise a family. But it is also a wonderful place to run a business. The community truly supports small businesses and I believe that is what makes the Little Apple such a great place to be!  So, thank you!”
