I remember being a clueless freshman enrolled in an academic program at Kansas State University the summer before I started my first year there. At lunch, an older student named Tyler Lockett came over and talked to our group. I noticed a lot of the girls had suddenly become a lot more giggly around him, but I had no idea who he was. All I knew was that he seemed very nice and genuine, and this was confirmed when he remembered me when we ran into each other at Derby Dining Center in the Fall.
These days, K-State alum Tyler Lockett is a wide receiver, kick returner and Pro Bowler for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. And now, he’s a businessman too.
Despite getting rigorous athletic training, Lee Gordon, 180 Communications’ V.P. of Corporate Communications, said to Forbes, “A lot of times, athletes forget that dealing with the media and creating a positive personal brand is equally important.”
