The leaves are changing colors, cooler weather is blowing in, and the holidays are near. Just as seasons change around the year, properties around our city do too. Entrepreneurs are at the heart of this movement. They are starting new businesses, finding ways to overcome challenges, and win their piece of the market.
Two new franchises will be added to the Manhattan small business scene this fall, including 9Round and Smoothie King.
9Round opens on Fort Riley Blvd
9Round is a 30 minute kickbox themed workout designed to work each part of your body throughout 9 stations. “There are no class times and the workout changes daily. Best of all, there is a trainer with you to walk you through the workout, motivate and help you reach your fitness goals,” owner Melissa Vettel said.
Vettel grew up in Wamego and attended Kansa State University, where she earned a degree in Kinesiology. Melissa and her husband Tim Vettel said, “we love Manhattan and are excited to be involved with the community.”
With over 450 U.S. locations since 2009, this popular circuit style training is a results driven workout in a positive and energetic environment. You will find yourself at 9 different stations that include both cardio and strength training. You’ll use dumb bells, kettle bells, medicine balls, jump ropes and other equipment to build strength and stamina.
The membership at 9Round offers no insanely convenient class times (there are none, and start every 3 minutes,) a member portal to track progress, a trainer at each workout, and a full body workout in 30 convenient minutes.
9Round currently has 10 certified trainers and recently celebrated its ribbon cutting and is open for business. The first workout is free!
9Round is located off of Fort Riley and 17th street. For more information visit: https://www.facebook.com/9RoundManhattanKS/
Smoothie King to open in Westloop
Smoothie King will open its first under the name in Manhattan this winter at 1228 Westloop Place, in the previous UPS Westloop location near Dillons. Smoothie King was founded in 1973 and began franchising in 1988. Now, with over 800 locations worldwide, Smoothie King plans to provide healthy lifestyle choices for smoothie-loving customers right here in Manhattan.
Franchise owner Terry Langton said, “Manhattan is a vibrant, well-educated town and, coupled with the student population, a very health-focused community. They deserve the finest, and Smoothie King is the ‘original smoothie’ and still the best available.”
Langton was born and raised in Manhattan, however, this isn’t his first go around at franchising, or Smoothie King. Terry became a franchisee of Smoothie King in 2014 and in the store’s first full year of operation, it was in the top 10 percent of stores in the U.S. and recognized as a member of the prestigious King’s Club. Langton said the honor was based on sales and he was thrilled with the store’s results. “This showed me that people know the importance of health,” he said.
Smoothie King is dedicated to developing smoothies with a purpose. The store will have smoothies that are designed for each guest’s individual tastes — whether that includes losing weight, adding extra protein, getting extra nutrients or boosting the immune system, there are many ways Smoothie King can help its customers.
Recently Smoothie King took a huge initiative and has been promoting “Cleaner Blending,” removing sugar and other additives from their products.
The new store in Manhattan will feature a design decorated to have a warm, welcoming feel to it. The Manhattan store will also have a very unique shape — Langton described it as “not the typical box-shaped space.” Although this has created a few design challenges, they have worked through the problems and plan to open their doors in early December.
Smoothie King will be looking for 18 to 20 reliable workers to cover their daily schedule: Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In 2016, Smoothie King was ranked the #1 Juice Bar Franchise on Entrepreneur Magazine’s Annual Franchise 500 list – marking the 23rd year the brand has occupied the number one spot and #92 overall. The ranking is primarily based upon financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of system.
