Home Decor on Wheels: Owner Haddie Schmidt Opens The Foundry

For more than a decade, Haddie Schmit has dreamed of owning her own business. Just over a week ago, her dream became reality as she opened the doors for her first customers of The Foundry.

“I have always loved decorating and design, and I am naturally a creative and artistic person. I am passionate about helping people create a space that reflects them and “feels like home.”

Most commonly, retail stores celebrate their opening by having customers enter from the sidewalk into a brick and mortar establishment. The Foundy however, is more of an experience than the traditional retail you may be thinking of. Schmidt and her husband John spent the last 10 months renovating a box truck into a mobile store.

“The idea of converting a truck into a mobile store came to me in 2017. We spent time searching for the right truck and finally purchased the one in December of 2018. When you step inside you almost forget you’re in a truck!

The Foundry is a fully mobile, powered by solar, store stocked with home decor, fresh flowers, and gifts. Additionally, Schmidt offers interior decorating through a personal consultation.

The Foundry will be open again this coming Saturday (Oct. 26th) from 10am-4pm, parked at 900 N. 3rd St. in Manhattan (near Sonic and KFC off Tuttle.)

Schmidt is planning on adding more days at different locations soon.
