Chapter JW of the International P.E.O. Announces Contribution to Global Projects

(Manhattan, Kansas – Press Release) – Chapter JW of the International P.E.O. Sisterhood has announced its contribution of $2,100 to their global projects. The P.E.O. Sisterhood maintains six educational projects in the form of grants, scholarships, and loans as well as the stewardship of Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri. Chapter JW also contributed to a Kansas state project.

“We are grateful for the generosity shown by the Manhattan community and our members to raise funds to projects we care so deeply about,” said Samantha Zerr, Chapter JW President.

Chapter JW’s primary fundraiser is through their Adult Easter Egg Hunt. Past prizes have included an iPad mini, Royals baseball tickets, K-State football tickets and gift cards to businesses around Manhattan.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization in which women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

True to the mission of promoting educational opportunities for women, education is the primary philanthropy of the P.E.O. sisterhood. The P.E.O. sisterhood proudly sponsors six international philanthropies, designed to assist women with their educational goals. Grant and loan recipients-as well as Cottey College students- need not to be members of P.E.O. With the exception of students that receive International Peace Scholarships, each recipient is sponsored by a P.E.O. chapter. This allows the chapter members to be a “meaningful” part of their student’s life.

P.E.O. was founded on January 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. This circle of kindred spirits – bonded by their enthusiasm for women’s opportunities – eventually expanded to include women off campus as well. Today, P.E.O. has grown from that tiny membership of seven to more than 225,000 members in chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.
