Fencing was erected over the weekend closing down a portion of the sidewalk near 4th Street & Poyntz Avenue. Mary Fischer, the owner of the building, has begun a multi-million dollar renovation of the space. BHS Construction is the general contractor working on a timeline of 8-10 months.

“The North side of the building, on Poyntz, will not initially have any fencing. There will be no parking on the West side of South 4th street for several months,” Downtown Manhattan director Gina Scroggs said.
“The sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians. The sidewalk on Poyntz will remain open/partially open throughout most of the project.”
The building will undergo both interior and exterior overhauls and when completed will serve as a multi-use, including but not limited to residential and retail.
Fischer owns and operates Gaia Salon & Spa on Poyntz Avenue and will have a new home once this renovation is complete. Mary wrote online, “Today was a GREAT day!! Gaia’s new home is started – now watch us clean her up and bring a lot of LOVE to downtown.”
Previous tenants of the building include Celebrations of The Heart, who recently moved across the street, AeroJuice, a healthy and fit restaurant who closed that location in February, J Salon, Christian Science Reading Room, and others on the second level.
