About two years ago, the KSU Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) was invited to open an ice cream shop as part of the food court renovation at the K-State Student Union. Students had voted overwhelmingly that they wanted ice cream as one of the 6 food options, and so plans for a new Call Hall location began.

A community favorite, Call Hall and the ASI Department have a long history of excellence at Kansas State University. Dr. Ken Odde, Department Head of the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, adds, “Having served ice cream and other food items at Call Hall for many years, we were delighted to take this opportunity to provide ice cream and ice cream products to students, faculty and staff that don’t routinely get to Call Hall.”

All of the milk used in Call Hall’s ice cream comes from the Department of Animal Science and Industry’s Dairy Farm on the north side of campus. It is then taken to the Call Hall Dairy Plant, where it is transformed into the ice cream flavors like “Purple Pride” that we all know and love. Unlike the brick-and-mortar Call Hall, though, the Student Union location focuses solely on ice cream.

Not only does having a Call Hall location at the Union provide high quality ice cream to more of the campus and the broader Manhattan community, it also creates more employment opportunities for students where they can learn important skills like customer service.

Hours for Call Hall at the K-State Student Union are available here.
