The House Café Grand Opening September 30th

The House Café is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run café which sells specialty coffee, loose leaf tea, bubble tea, and simple food items. According to their website, proceeds from the café will be used to address both the physical and spiritual needs of youth in Ogden, KS including poverty, violence, drug abuse, high crime rates, and academic struggles. The adult volunteers will also serve as mentors to teenagers in the café.

Executive Director Christopher Jacobs said “this is all about the youth and teens in our local community. The House is a not for profit coffee shop that is going to provide coffee, tea, and community.”

It all started back in 2009. Jacobs was serving in the Army, deployed in Iraq, when his faith opened his heart to the ones around him. After returning and looking for a church in his community, Jacobs and his wife got involved with a teen night in Ogden. “We are tired of seeing the cycle in these kids lives. Drugs, arrested, prison,” Christopher Jacobs said.

“The goal is to use all of the profit to put into the youth and teens. We want it to be used for their academics, and eventually also build a teen center for the community as well,” Jacobs said.

Though their grand opening is September 30th, they have already been able to engage with the community and start getting rave reviews.

The House Café will be putting aside funds for the building of a teen center and a scholarship fund for local youth who desire to go to college.  As the business grows, they plan to hire teens as interns and equip them for future employment through this program. They also want to fund academic resources such as tutoring, transportation to after-school activities, and other programs as they are able.

Their meeting room will be available for reservation any time the café is open, with no fee. They are open Tuesday – Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (They close early at 2 on Thursdays to do Youth Ministry)

Come join them for their grand opening September 30th at 230 Riley Ave., Ogden, Kansas 66517. And stay up-to-date with their project on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheHouseCafedbaBMI/
