“Talk of the Townies” Podcast Brings Community News to the Little Apple

According to their Patreon site, “Talk of the Townies” is a “local, artisanal, bespoke podcast for your MHK townie needs. We will be working very hard to keep you up-to-date on all the latest community happenings around the Little Apple and to keep you informed about the people that make our community great.”

Steve Keck, one of the podcast’s co-creators, explains the origin of the show: “We have an unhealthy interest and affection for all things Manhattan. It kind of got brought up as a joke initially and once we realized how easy it would be to do, we got the ball rolling and started reaching out to interesting people to be guests.” To its creators, the main theme that seems to tie everything together is interesting things in Manhattan.

When asked how they defined “townies,” Keck said, “We ask all of our guests if they are townies and they give us reasons why they are or are not. So the definition is changing from episode to episode.”

Its creators try to appeal to any and all age groups for people who live in, or are interested in, Manhattan, KS. So far, the majority of their interviews have been restaurant owners from the area. In addition to discussing business happenings, they also discuss local community events and other local influencers.
